What is the Dupont shift schedule?

What is the Pitman 2-2-3 schedule?

The Pitman (2-2-3) is a 14-day cycle: 2 days on, 2 off, 3 on, 2 off, 2 on, 3 off — 7 shifts per fortnight with every other 3-day weekend off. Half the crews work the same days as nights in the opposite fortnight.

How do I start the calendar mid-cycle?

Set the anchor date to any day you know your position in the cycle — for example, a day you start a block of day shifts. The generator counts the pattern from that day.

How to generate your shift calendar

Pick your rotation. Choose a common pattern or select Custom and type it as letters: D = day shift, N = night shift, O = off. "DDOODDOO" is 4-on-4-off, for example.
Set the anchor date. Find one day you know your position in the cycle — the first day of your next run of shifts works perfectly. The whole year unfolds from that day.
Generate and print. You get all 12 months with day/night/off color coding, plus a count of your shifts for the year. Stick it on the fridge so the family always knows.

The common rotating schedules, explained

Dupont (28-day, 4 crews)

4 nights → 3 off → 3 days → 1 off → 3 days → 3 off → 4 nights → 7 off. The long 7-day break every month is the famous part of the Dupont rotation; the trade-off is eight consecutive-ish night shifts per cycle.

Pitman 2-2-3 (14-day, 4 crews)

2 on, 2 off, 3 on, 2 off, 2 on, 3 off. You work 7 of every 14 days and get every other long weekend. Crews alternate: while one works days, its partner works nights the next fortnight.

4-on-4-off and 3-on-3-off

The simplest rotations — equal runs of shifts and rest. 4-on-4-off runs on an 8-day cycle so it drifts across the week; popular in factories, plants and security work.

My pattern starts mid-cycle. Can the calendar match it?

Yes — that's what the anchor date is for. Any date where you know your shift type becomes day zero of the pattern, and every other date is calculated from it.

Can I make a custom rotation like 2-3-2?

Choose Custom pattern and type the cycle using D, N and O — for example DDONNOODDO. Any length up to 60 days works.
